Swanky Brasserie de luxe

From the Russian restaurant supremo behind eponymous Asian / Italian glam haunt Novikov comes Rextail. Located on Albemarle Street, it is conveniently located for the hedge fund crew and well-heeled Mayfair set that pack its banquettes nightly. Head Chef Adrain Martin knows exactly how to please the crowds here, having joined from The Birley Group where he oversaw the kitchen's of the same jet-set favourite haunts Annabel's, Harry's Bar and George. The feel is casual neighbourhood-style brasserie, although being in the heart of Mayfair it's certainly more swish than simple. The subterranean, tavern-style setting, complete with wooden tables, long lines of comfortable seating, brass lamps and country house objects is set to a lively soundtrack and buzzing atmosphere. A Buffalo head hung on its colourful central wall directs diners to the star of the menu, the finest selection of meats. Premium quality steaks from the best cattle are presented tableside on large wooden trays; select from tender cuts including Irish Black Tipperary 40 day dry aged Angus and the delicately marbled U.S. Nebraska Wagyu that are given a delectable charred crust, courtesy of the sizzling charcoal grill. Meanwhile the selection of wood roasts dishes, such as the Braised Beef Short Ribs with Bone Marrow have a rich smokey flavour. The fish dishes on offer, like the wide range of starters, showcase the enormous variety of highest quality ingredients and international flavours on the ample menu and diners can journey to Asia with Yellowfin Tuna, Koshu and Picked Cucumber and the Yuzu Scented Black Cod with Packchoi or to the Mediterranean with fresh flavours of Grilled Wild Seabass with Tapenade and Braised Fennel or UK's finest Dorset rock oysters. In addition, an extensive selection of well-sourced charcuteries and cured meats, ranging from Iberico hams, Chirizo to leanest Bresaola are served all day. The eclectic menu is certainly as international as the crowd and even the slinkiest of sassy Mayfair-ites leave room for the excellent selection of cheeses and home made deserts of the day including the crispy caramelised apple Tarte Tatin. Livio Italiani, the charming general manager, is on hand to offer his wealth of knowledge of the perfect wines that he carefully selects for the well-stocked cellars.  LPV's top tip for a super-swanky Mayfair brasserie.
