Conveniently located in Mayfair, Babbo is a traditional but cosy Italian. The dining room manages at once to create a classic yet intimate ambiance - think sumptuous cream leather upholstery, black and white family portraits and startched linens, all sympathetically lit with flattering light from Italian crystal chandeliers. New Chef Carlo Scotto honed his skills courtesy of Michelin-starred Angela Hartnett and at Babbo he brings that same flair and energy in re-creating regional Northern Italian dishes. The focus on quality of ingredients and clarity of flavours showcase a confident kitchen. The use of seasonal ingredients attest to Babbo's pride in sourcing excellent quality produce and the care it places on provinance. Centre stage is the Burrata: generous portions of the creamiest most unctuous variety, especially flown in twice a week from Italy. Succulent meats are a popular choice here, from the deep earthy Carpaccio with Pantelleria Island capers to the rich and tender fiorentina and succulent cuts of Piedmont beef. The new menu features lighter dishes and all the freshest flavours of the season including the asparagus risotto with zesty goats cheese, pea shoots and toasted hazelnuts - simply spring on a plate. The service is charming and knowledgeable and the wine-list is voluptous and almost exclsuively Italian and selected with care. Well executed, traditional Italian fare in an attractive setting ensures the local hedge-fund boys as well as food lovers will continue to feast well at this sophisticated Italian.
