Wild Honey is the second opening from Chef Anthony Demetre following in the steps of his multi-award winning Arbutus restaurant and just like its sibling, was awarded a Michelin star within the very first year of opening. Wild Honey successfully continues the formula of approachable fine dining with accomplished food and slick service, in a more casual setting than more traditional high-end dining establishments. It also inherits from Arbutus the clever option of offering the majority of wines on the list in an approachable 250ml carafe option at the pro rata price of a bottle. Great news for fans of wine pairings. LuxePrivé was certainly impressed by the ample selection of worldwide wines, ranging from a crisp Torrontés from Uruguay to a spicy Ixir Grande Reserve from Lebanon. The wines proved a perfect flavour match for the hand dived Scottish scollops; so often served with peas for sweetness, Chef Demetre's creative version was served with the deliciously starchy creaminess of sweetcorn, the popcorn like texture of buckweat and woody girolles. A perfectly balanced dish using only the finest of seasonal produce. Whilst the salad of crab with avocado, pinapple and green mango was an unusal combination and rather light, due no doubt to the use of only the white meat, the main courses were well devised and perfectly executed. The Welsh Elwy lamb was deliciously rich and melting off the bone. The accompanying textures of crushed broccoli, creamy sheeps curd, Provencal figs and crunchy toasted hazelnuts skillfuly create autumn on a plate. The care in sourcing prime seasonal products is evident throughout the menu, including in the fish dishes. The Turbot came succulently pale and given a punch with creamy coco beans and Kentish cobnuts. Desserts include the surprisingly light Chocolate aero and the signature Wild Honey icecream with honeycomb. Cheese lovers will be delighted by the display of English and French cheese that changes with the seasons. Linger in the warmth of the wood pannelled dining room - a space that is almost divided into two sections: more feminine and sociable at the front or more traditional at the back with deep leather crimson booths. Don't overlook the bar however, which surprisingly, makes for an inviting venue to enjoy the menu and the excellent selection of wines, all in a cosy Mayfair location. With the talented Manager Christophe Vitalien at the helm (previosuly with the prolific Atherton "Social" establishments) we say this Mayfair staple is set to soar.
