Newly Refurbished

Classic Hotel Grill Restaurant

Fresh from an extensive renovation The Dorchester's classic grill restaurant has shed the staid traditional tartan and emerged all glistening and shiny. Smooth marble floors, buttery leather chairs, zinc, copper and rich oak finishes create a neutral canvas, injected with gilded accents, like the dazzling, giant torn-like Murano glass chandelier that dominates the dining room, an entire back wall decked with shining copper pans and reflective wall panels that pivot to mirror day and night lights. The effect is a bold, modern departure from its previous incarnation. What hasn't changed despite the contemporary finishes, thankfully, is the old-school grill concept that has made this one of London's classic Grill restaurants originally established in 1930's. Many of the dishes remain unchanged like the peppered organic Aberdeen Angus prime rib for two, served from a gleaming silver trolley and elegantly carved table side, or the supremo of the sea: freshest Dover sole. Here, diners are treated to a sturdy specimen weighing a minimum of 1.2kg, making for more succulent fillets that are expertly deboned and simply served with a silken butter sauce. Other classic dishes include organic Aberdeen Angus beef although here the Chef Christophe Marlieux does break from convention by serving the succulent tournedos with yorkshire pudding, the usual accompaniment of a roast, alongside bone marrow that is given an extra textural dimension with a pistachio herb crust, all covered in lashings of a sweet-tinged Bordelaise sauce. Other notable dishes include the signature blue lobster chowder, a lighter version finished with just a hint of cream and a further modern take on a classic in the form of the Paté en Croute, served with crunchy bijoux pickled vegetables that lend a fresh acidity to the depth of flavour of the chicken breast and fois gras. One of the highlights of dining is the extensive selection of sweet soufflés, each created a la minute and with depth of flavour that belie their lightness, like the Sicilian Pistachio served with salted caramel ice cream or Rum Raisin, with macerated, sweet plump raisins soaked in aged Diplomatico 'reserva' rum. Wines are matched with a creative selection of wines-by-the-glass that showcase lesser known old and new world varietals, expertly matched by the talented Head Sommelier Ruben Desport and mostly poured from generous magnums, lending the Grill another dash of dazzling drama.
